Joe Pokalsey of Stuart, Florida is a special man we want to highlight this month. Joe has retired from a long career in retail sales and merchandising management, yet still enjoys being around retail sales. His favorite past-time is listening to southern gospel music. Joe also likes to encourage others to be their best – an outgrowth of many years as an ordained lifetime deacon.
He is a member of Community Baptist Church and started volunteering at LAHIA over three years ago. One Saturday he came to visit LAHIA to “see what they were doing” and has been involved ever since. He began by serving the lunch meal and being a friend to those who needed someone to listen and encourage them.
For the last two years, Joe has been the dependable ride for many folks needing to get to doctor’s appointments, rehab facilities, court dates, the bus station, grocery store, bank, etc and we rely heavily on him for these tasks as some trips are just too far for bicycles and tired feet. We are most grateful to Joe for the many, many transportation hours he has logged.
Joe’s vision for LAHIA is multi-faceted: keeping the first thing first – Jesus, changing lives through changing lifestyles, and growing into a complete ministry to meet the needs of the down and needy in our area by lifting them up through help-oriented programs and standing beside them as they grow.
We love and appreciate you, Mr. Joe, for your selfless service, your humility, and your quiet humor. God bless you!
